Dr. Berkowitz earned his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then completed a residency program in internal medicine and pediatrics at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Berkowitz is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Physicians. His special interests include sports medicine and high-school team medical management.
